Our Garden

Rosamund is a special place for the community. Here's why.

Rosamund Community Garden is a quiet paradise nestled between orchards, wildflower meadows, and woodland on the outskirts of Guildford. You can find us near Pewley Down, off Longdown Road. It's also a short walk from Chantry Woods and North Downs Way.

The garden is open every day of the year to members and we welcome visitors whether you're passing by or fancy a sneak peek during group volunteer times

The total area of the site is 19 acres of which we use about one acre to grow a variety of vegetables, herbs, fruit, and flowers.  â€‹â€‹

The Hub

Walk into Rosamund and you're greeted by a building special to our hearts, the Hub. This circular building has been built with the help of our volunteers using traditional cobbing and wattle and daub methods. Though it's still a work in progress, it's been a long time in the making and we couldn't be prouder.

The fruit cage

Next to our hub is the fruit cage where we grow blackcurrants, raspberries, cherries, redcurrants, and more. In the summer months these vines are bursting with colour and abundance.

The beds

There are a number of ornamental and vegetable beds for you to get involved with, including four raised beds suitable for disabled gardeners. In these we grow flowers like sedum, nasturtiums, marigold, calendula, sweet peas, and borage. We grow vegetables like asparagus, leeks, cabbage, lettuce, and broad beans.

The polytunnels

We have two polytunnels where we produce food crops throughout the year. We grow tomatoes, aubergines, peppers and cucumbers under cover, as well as a large variety of salads and herbs.

The wildlife ponds

Over the last 100 years, over half a million wildlife ponds have been lost in the UK according to the Wildlife Trusts. And because ponds are essential for the preservation of nature, we're doing our bit to tackle this problem head on.

Rosamund has three wildlife ponds created by our volunteers to attract a variety wildlife and provide essential habitat.

The orchard

At the back of the garden, you'll find a fabulous orchard filled with apple, pear, plum and nut trees. Every autumn we have an apple pressing day using the apples from the orchard.
